The Stand

Living Water

Do you remember the feeling you had the first time you stood up on your board? What an exhilarating experience that vividly marks for many the day they became a surfer. The day you become a Christian is also marked by taking a stand and beginning a beautiful new life in Christ.

These signposts in our lives designate life changing moments where our paths are altered in very significant ways. Whether surfing or Jesus, becoming a parent or losing a loved one, our journeys are never the same. These experiences define our lives and shape our views of the world.

I’ve been reminded lately that the world has changed since those first “stands” I took on my board and for the bible. Today more than ever we are being called to clarify just who, where and what we stand for on a daily basis. Let’s “stand firm in one spirit, with one mind, striving side by side for the faith of the gospel.”  Philippians 1:27. Falling in love again and again with the one for whom we stand (and surf for) is like catching a wave over and over… each time allows for a deeper experience of becoming who we were created to be. But let’s not ever forget the beauty of those first moments because they are a gift, a source of hope and our anchor in challenging times and circumstances.

“We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place…” Hebrews 6:19
