Seeking God In 2024

Published: Mon Jan 8, 2024

Living Water

by Kelly Kemp, CS St. Augustine

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added

      unto you.”Matthew 6:33

Happy New Year! But now what? God has given us a blessing of another year before He returns again. How are we going to use this gift? We should spend this next year seeking God’s will to build His Kingdom. Many times, we seek God just to meet our needs. When we should be studying the Bible, God’s Word, on a daily basis. Not just in times of trouble. Remember its daily bread, not cake for special occasions.

Bible study is like surfing or any sport. When you surf consistently, regardless of the conditions, you will see the results in critical sections. If you are only surfing when the conditions are perfect, you are not perfecting muscle memory and being a better waterman. A huge part of surfing is being able to read the ocean and the wave formations. If you are not familiar with the patterns of the ocean, you will have a much harder time. Same with our spiritual lives, the more time we spend in the Word and with God, the more prepared we can be for hard times and critical sections.

So this year instead of just saying to God, “I need …”, pray that God’s will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. By Loving God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and by loving your neighbor as yourself, then you will find your needs are taken care of. Jesus spoke those words in the scripture above during His sermon on the mount. He was encouraging the listeners not to worry.

As we enter into the year 2024, leave the practice of stress behind us. Leave the stress of bills, family, work etc. and trust the Lord to do His will. Your Father in Heaven knows your needs (Matthew 6:25). This does not mean don’t bring your cares to him. It means once you have prayed, now leave them with Jesus, and don’t continue to stress over them.

“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” 1 Peter 5:6-7
