Open Hearts

Living Water

If you have ever given a surf lesson, then you know what a difference it makes when novices pay close attention on the beach. They tune in and hear all of your expert tips and advice. They understand that you are there to provide them their best possible experience. It’s very rewarding when they paddle out and apply what you have taught them.

This is all the better when newbies to the faith are in the zone when we speak with them about our walk with Christ!

Acts provides us several accounts of the apostles’ efforts to get their message across. “One who heard us was a woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple goods, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what was said by Paul” (Acts 16:14 ESV). Paul was no doubt stoked; he had seen far too many people tune him out or outright reject his words.

On one occasion, “When the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy. They began to contradict what Paul was saying and heaped abuse on him” (Acts 13:45 NIV). Clearly, he did not let this stop him from telling people about Jesus, and Lydia plus countless others came to know Him as a result.

God, open the hearts of those we talk with about You, and empower us to overcome rejection
