I Giggled Out Loud

Living Water

by Kyle Sullivan, CS Mid Atlantic Regional Coordinator

This photo was a screen shot of the sunrise at my home break. My alarm went off and I was checking the surf on the cam, trying to decide if my son was going to be late for school that morning because of a well needed surf sesh. As you can see the colors in the sky were stunning! The waves, not so much, he was going to make it to school on time.

Two verses always come to mind when I see this display of God’s creative beauty. Psalms 19:1 says ” The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.” Psalms 113:3 al so encourages us “From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the LORD is to be praised.” (Bonus verses from Lamentations 3:21-24)

Commit these verses to memory. I dare you. To reframe our mind by thinking God’s words all day long is life transformative. Check out Psalm 119:9-11, Romans 12:1-2 and Ephesians 4:17-24 and let them teach you this truth further.

So why the title of this devo? my son and I did paddle out for about 30 minutes before sunset that day. It was a small log wave but was letting us have long, fun rides. What made it extra special, was the amazing sunset. The water turned golden from the reflection of the sky. It was with this gold hew all around me that I paddled into a left and settled into the pocket. The water was slightly textured so the entire scene in front of me danced and sparkled causing me involuntarily giggled out loud. No one heard it but me and my Father. It was His gift to me in that moment.

Jason Gray reminds us in his song Good to be Alive that “the joy that we get brings joy to the heart of the Giver”. Sometimes you just have to giggle with joy in the moments when we realize how good our God is.
