Good To Epic

Living Water

Imagine you check out your favorite long range surf report, and the forecast calls for Epic/Good conditions.   You pick up the phone and start telling your surf crew.  After a flurry of texts including screens shots of buoy reports, swell direction, wind conditions, moon phases and tides: FINALLY the crew agrees to meet up for a fun session.

When I was growing up on the East Coast, we didn’t have such sophisticated reporting models.  Our best bet was to drive to the beach and wait for a “thumbs up or thumbs down” from surfers driving in the opposite direction.  Have you ever been surfing in the evening and see the sun setting against a passing low-pressure system?   Even to this day, these sunsets remind me of the saying; “red sky at night sailors delight, red sky in morning sailors take warning.”

When Jesus was tested by the religious leaders, they asked him for a sign of his divinity.  He answered them:“When it is evening, you say, It will be fair weather, for the sky is red. And in the morning, It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and threatening. You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.” ”An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah.” Matt16:2-4.   “For as Jonah became a sign to the people of Nineveh, so will the Son of Man be to this generation.” Luke11:30

Maybe you are going on a surf and serve trip this year. Maybe you plan to hand out surfer bibles or maybe you are more low key and will simply be a friend to someone in your local chapter or lineup.  Whatever your situation, as we gear up to “Send It” this year, don’t forget that” as the people repented at the preaching of Jonah, something greater than Jonah is here.”   Think of the gospel as an Epic surf report in eternity that every surfer needs to hear about!
