God Is Our Strength

Living Water

by Nina Coons

If you’re a surfer, then you have experienced the power of the ocean to an extent. Maybe some have felt more than others. On a super big day, with lots of current pulling, maybe a wipe out where a 5 second hold down felt like 3 minutes, haha. We can all agree that the ocean is strong and powerful. One of my favorite Psalms says, “Mightier than the thunders of many waters, mightier than the waves of the sea, the LORD on high is mighty!” Psalms 93:4.

Think about the gnarliest wipe out you have. All those waves, pulling a force can’t even begin to compare to the strength of God! On our surf and serve trip to El Salvador I spoke and prayed with an amazing woman leader. She shared with me how she had been in ministry for over 10 years with her family. I heard of the troubles she has been through and how at many times she thought she could not keep going.

As I listened to her I thought to myself, “If I was her I would’ve given up, I’m not strong enough for that type of life, I’ve never served in that way costing me everything”. And I felt the Lord speak to me saying, you may not be strong but I am! I am your strength no matter what you go through; if you were there I would be with you too! I was reminded that in that moment, God is who equips us to carry out His purpose.

It’s the most encouraging and comforting news to know that no matter what we face, God’s strength will pull us through! He will make us able to accomplish his purpose. What is His purpose for us? To love others and share the good news, no matter the circumstances, no matter the cost! Maybe, you feel like you’ve been dealt a bad set of cards and it’s hard to love your family because of the hurt they caused. Or your job is a miserable place to be; whatever the situation, lean into Christ for strength! He is mighty! He will accomplish His purpose in our lives!

Jesus says to you! “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

2 Corinthians 12
