As we get closer to the end of the year, I find myself coming to the end of a season in my life and getting ready to start an entirely new one. My main focus the last few months has been preparing for what’s next but also finishing my current season well. I think we’ve all been on a wave where it started great but we just weren’t able to finish it off. Whether you catch the nose on the last turn or come unstuck (if you’re the person that can get some airtime you know what it feels like). The excitement and joy of a well surfed wave can almost be overshadowed by an untimely fall on a tricky end section. We all transition into new things because we serve a God of the new. He is always doing a new thing, the same way we always have a next wave, there will always be a next season until we finally go home to be at our Fathers side. Just like surfing, the more experience we gain in life, the better we are able to navigate the tricky oncoming sections or crazy double ups that show up in our life. We get to progress from getting destroyed or kicking out before we finish a wave to fully committing to finish the wave strong. I can’t say I’m always in that headspace in the water but I know for sure I want to live my life like that. Paul talks about finishing his race in 2 Timothy 4:6-8 and in finishing his race and keeping his faith, is sure of God reward for a life well lived. If nothing else in my life I want to life well and finish every season God has for me well no matter what it is. So as we close the year ask yourself how am I finishing this year? Don’t get to the finish line and have regrets of not committing to finishing well.
