Fed Up

Living Water

Are you fed up? Ha! Not in the way that you are fed up with the crowds at the local break, the lack of swell or taxes. But in what you are eating before and after a surf.

A proper diet along with proper rest and exercise is crucial for maximum physical and mental health. To be the best in and out of the water, what we take into our bodies makes a difference.

We are at the end of our blueberry season here in North Carolina. I will miss loading up my morning breakfast granola cereal with fresh picked berries out of my back yard. Or loading up a bowl of yogurt with dark chocolate and more blueberries. Or… I’ll stop there, I think you get the point: proper rest, consistent exercise and healthy food help us prepare to do what we enjoy in life.

These same three are worthy of looking into spiritually. We need to daily feed our souls on that which helps us be fit for service to the Lord.

Listen to Jesus’s invitation in Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (v29 & 30 also)

Paul tells young Timothy in 1 Timothy 4:7b-8 “Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.”

The Psalmist tells us that time spent reading, memorizing and meditating on God’s Word is “More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.” Psalm 19:10

Proverbs 24:13-14 “My son, eat honey, for it is good, and the drippings of the honeycomb are sweet to your taste. Know that wisdom is such to your soul; if you find it, there will be a future and your hope will not be cut off.”

I want to surf as long as I can so staying healthy is important but, more than that, I want to be useful to the Lord for the rest of my life also. So choosing to rest, exercise and eat right physically and spiritually will help me accomplish these goals.
