Be Gospel Centered

Living Water

by Larry Garrett, Hawai'i Regional Coordinator

This year Christian Surfers Hawai’i launched a partnership with a discipleship program called Revolution Hawai’i. This partnership has me focusing on how we can integrate Christian Surfers DNA into this program. We needed to teach the Foundations Training as part of the program and I was stoked. We covered video 2 and drove home the importance of living out the core values in our everyday lives as Christian Surfers. Having core values is so important for those who want to live this life with purpose. Part of the training teaches the 5 core values and it says that we as Christian Surfers should be gospel-centered, people of integrityinclusiveservant-hearted, and surfers.

Let’s look at the first value, being Gospel-Centered. Simply put, we need to look at our lives through the lens of the gospel. We need to allow every part of our life to be touched by it. (The gospel is the good news that Jesus loves us and died on the cross for everyone’s wrongdoings so that we could live a life for Him and through his forgiveness we can have an eternal life with Him). We all need to know and remember that once we have become Christians our lives belong to Jesus. We need to live in such a way that Christ comes first and everything else comes second. When we have this mind then good and bad moments are all opportunities for us to share the gospel. Paul in Philippians 1:12-14 he says, “I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard and to all the rest that my imprisonment is for Christ. And most of the brothers, having become confident in the Lord by my imprisonment, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.” If Jesus uses Paul’s imprisonment to build others up and to preach the gospel; I can’t wait to see what Jesus will do with us and surfing.
