A look at last year:

Aloha,

In true surfer fashion, here an update that is way overdue:

Christian Surfers North Shore’s 1st Surf Night, it was a blast. About 70 people averaging from 16 to 50 yrs old showed up to see “Kid Brother”, a local punk band, play; the surf movie Changes; and hear Christian Jenson speak. Everyone was stoked with the stickers, gift certificate, surf goodie bags, and surfboard giveaways from WRV and JC surfboards, but most of all it was awesome to see Jesus get the glory and honor.

Here’s an email we received from one of the guys who came out for the first time:

Was up bra how's it.  My name is Stuart and I attended the last meeting on the North Shore.  I was that extremely lucky individual that ended up going home with the 6'6 JC board.  Anyways I just wanted to write and thank you guys for holding an event that has so dramatically changed my life.  Ever since I can remember I have been searching for some kind of higher meaning.  I have tried to fill that void with alcohol, drugs, and girls; but nothing has been as powerful as the presence I felt in that room last Friday.  I haven't done much since then other than sit in my room and read the Surfer's Bible and think about God's plan for me.  I really don't even know who I'm writing this letter to but I just want you to know that I am very grateful for the opportunity to meet such a wonderful group of people that surf and share the message of God.  Thank you once again for having such a deep impact on my life.  I'm so stoked to come next Friday see ya then.

Shoots,
Stuart

The great thing is that this is just the beginning. We are planning out a great year and God is definitely moving here. I recently heard a guy talking about raising up new leaders for ministry.
Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease. But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like a sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is truly plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” Matt 9:35-38
It got me thinking about ministry differently. The next generation of Christian leaders are those gnarly surfers that we welcome with open arms and grace. They may come with some heavy baggage, but God has a plan for their lives. He wants to heal the brokenness of their lives and raise them up for his glory. If we admit it, we are all in that process somewhere.
So my prayer is this: that God allows us to be a blessing to the surfing community in a way that results in surfers becoming rooted and established in the love of Christ and equipped to change the world for the next generation.
