You never advance beyond popping up in surfing. It’s fundamental, making it necessary to surf. The same is true with the premise of this verse – we never outgrow it. Prov 3:5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.“
In the surfing world there seems to be a trend of believing in Jesus for salvation but then continuing to “trust in my own understanding” for living. A few examples of understanding that is shaped by the surf culture far more than Scripture are: Our views on women, female surfers views on beauty, our views on money, our perspectives on responsibility, priorities, family, enemies, alcohol, divorce, violence, even surfing are often “toeing the party line” and following the “talking points” of Surfers Journal or Transworld Surf more than Matthew or 1 Corinthians.
My dear Bros and Wahines, I challenge you to not merely trust God with your death but also with your life. The abundant life that Jesus wants to give us and glorify the Father through, begins now. It is a walk of faith, a trust walk where we, like a blindfolded person, have opinions based on smells and sounds and the yells of the crowd but we ignore our instincts to trust our Daddies voice and follow Him. Just like the first time you dropped in on a real wave and instinct said pull back but instead you hurled yourself over the edge making all the difference.

Learning to do this better everyday. But not without challenges!

Exactly! Just like Jesus surrendered to save us, we need to surrender 100% to Him. It is no doubt a challenge because we are weak, and that’s why we need salvation
