Jim Moriarty
Jim Moriarty is an innovative leader in the environmental and action sports communities.  From a skateboarding punk-rock kid to an architect of the early days of e-commerce, Moriarty is obsessed with building companies and organizations around notable and world-altering ideas.  Jim's job as CEO of the Surfrider Foundation melds his passions for environmental awareness, action sports and big ideas.  His vision is clear: create a global movement of coastal environmental awareness and action.  Jim resides in Solana Beach, and when he's not working, he can be found riding waves at his home break Swamis.

Mike Matey

Mike Matey, Marketing Director at Quiksilver, is an avid surfer, experienced marketer, and is married with two children (ages 10 and 6). Mike has 18 years marketing experience in consumer tech and media companies (Microsoft, Intuit, Yahoo, Surfline, MP3.com, Musicmatch), and has focused on customer acquisition/retention on emerging platforms, including the web, mobile and social networks. Mike is a goofy-foot, lives in Cardiff, CA, loves his 5’10” quad fish, and connects with students who surf at his church’s high-school youth group.

Lyle Castellaw
Lyle Castellaw is Teaching Pastor at Terra Nova Church in Orange County, CA. He first stood up on a board in 1974 (a rented pop-out from Gordie Surfboards in HB, on a blown out spring afternoon at The Cliffs). Since then, he has broadened his boardsports passion to include snow and wake. As a youth pastor, church planter, lead pastor and now a teaching pastor, he has seen surfing as a tool God uses to reach the coming generation. He has invested himself in surf camp leadership and speaking in California locales stretching from Santa Cruz to Baja. He has led reaching initiatives in the Latin world, taking surfers to serve the church and community in El Salvador, and Costa Rica. He can often be seen hoofing it down the path at Trestles, with sons Austin (20), Tyler (16) and Caleb (14). Lyle is now Chairman of the Board.

Bill Hogan


Bill Hogan

Bill Hogan is the CFO and head of Human Resources for Sawgrass Technologies, located in the Charleston, SC area.  Sawgrass is rapidly growing and leading developer of digital printing technologies that allows their customers to customize and personalize a vast array of products.  Bill has spent over 26 years in the business world working for 8 different companies.  These companies have ranged in size from 3 employees to 300,000 (11 years with General Electric).  Bill’s roles have focused primarily in Finance with multiple Operations roles along the way.

 

Bill is blessed to have a wonderful and loving wife Jan of 20 years.  They have adopted three incredible children … the oldest boy from Paraguay, a boy from Guatemala and daughter also from Guatemala.  Bill plays an active role in his church, is one of the leaders of Christian Surfers Charleston and holds a leadership role with the Southern South Carolina ESA.  Bill was born in Missouri and raised in Indiana making him a “Show-Me Hoosier”.  It was annual vacations to the beach that had him interested and dabbling in surfing much of his life.  It wasn’t until moving to Charleston 5+ years ago that he was able to turn the surfing from dabbling into a passion.  Bill’s local break is the Washout on Folly Beach.

Laura Dobson

A California native, surfing since she was 8,  Laura graduated from Cal State Northridge with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Health Administration. In 1999, Laura volunteered with Youth with a Mission: Discipleship Training School and worked as a mission's team leader and a facilitator in the Surfers for Missions International Outreach, completing in 2001. Over the past 10 years, Laura has lead international surf missions in Portugal, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Morocco, and Netherlands. Laura has been involved in GAP Youth Training since 2001 as an active board member and coach.  She is married to Ryan Dobson and they have one son.  In 2004, she helped launch KOR ministries, which focuses on evangelizing the lost, teaching a Biblical world view, and equipping and motivating Christians.  She speaks on forgiveness and leadership all over the nation. 

 

She has an eye for photography and in the past 2 years has developed her skills by continuing her education in college classes and mentoring.  She wants to use her skills to raise money for their international adoption in Africa.   Laura is an active member of her local church, and serves on the ministry team for MOPS (mothers of pre-schoolers). 




John Culbreth

Retired after 32 years at the US Postal Service, John turned his life over to Jesus in his 20's and has been following the Lord ever since.  He has been a youth director at 3 churches and also worked in the church high school department where he was in charge of teaching discipling young men.

He has been involved with Christian Surfers since 2001 and is still the current chapter director of CS Jacksonville.  He is on the board of directors for TLC, the local Crisis Pregnancy Center and the Family Driven Softball League.
Happily married for 39 years, John has 2 daughters, 2 son in laws and 6 grandchildren.

Surfing since the age of 9, John had to walk away for a while after being saved to reprioritize and God gave it back as a tool to reach an unreached tribe of surfers.  When God led him to CS he knew that was exactly where he was supposed to be!

The National Office exists to lead and serve the local chapters and its members. This includes, but is not limited to: mission and vision, training, resources, administration, staffing, and web hosting.
