Over 500,000 fans attended the world's largest professional surfing competition that began it’s nine day run on Saturday, July 31 and ran through Sunday, August 8 at the Huntington Beach Pier. This event is North America's only combined ASP Men's Prime and Women's Six-Star-rated event. Record level of prize money attracted the world’s top athletes as it has become an important stop on the ASP World Tour. Fans were also treated to the top athletes from the BMX, Skate world and enjoyed free concerts on the sand by Weezer, Switchfoot and more.
This unique event created a great opportunity for the 100+ Christian Surfer volunteers (missionaries) to reach-out with the love of Jesus in love language of service. Each morning our team provided free coffee to the vendors and fans of the event. We were also able to send out teams workers to support IMG, the owner of the event by picking up trash, as well as gifting workers to Nike 6.0’s efforts. Thanks to Walking on Water for providing 2000 “Heart of a Soul Surfer” movies that we blessed fans with. It was exciting to see God open doors for our team to serve in areas we never have before.
We are so thankful to Hurley’s foundation “Living The Dream” for their love and partnership in providing the most unbelievable booth and viewing platform ever. Its main purpose was driven by the vision of Scottie Somers, founder of LTD)(, to give critically ill children and their families a VIP experience at the Hurley US Open. This experience profoundly impacted our team, as we were able to love on these amazing people.
Saturday, August 7th, Christian Surfers, Living the Dream and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, hosted a free screening of “The Drifter” and concert by 3 time World Champ Tom Curren, as a fund-raiser for Cystic Fibrosis. It was a great evening of free food, hula/ fire dancing and our MC: Fuel TV’s Matt Beacham. Thanks to all who attended and supported finding a cure for CF.
Thanks to the ASP World Tour Association; we are honored to provide chaplains to ASP’s Men’s and Women’s athletes and officials of the World Tour. We are excited to see what the Lord will do with our team next year as we invite you to “Join the Movement”!
