FAQ'S

Q: How much does it cost?

A: Prep School has two different prices, $200 for students (aged 13-17), and $175 for chaperones (age 18+).  Registration works like this - first you register for free online, then you fill out some application documents, and at a later date will receive word if you have been accepted.  Once accepted, we will provide you with all the payment details you need.  The process is the same for chaperones.

What do I get for the registration fee?

A: Transportation to and from airport (if applicable), on-site transportation, beachside lodging at Anastasia State Park, meals during Prep School, professional trainer and materials, and a life-changing experience!

Q: When does it start?

A: Prep School begins at 1pm on August 5th. It ends at 12pm on August 8th.

Q: Is prep school open to male and female applicants?

A: Yes it is and there are separate lodging accommodations and chaperones for male and female participants.

Q: How good of a surfer do I have to be?

A: You don’t need to be a good surfer, or even a surfer at all.  What you need to be is someone who has a desire to follow Christ, and to reach the surfing community. In years past there have been surfers of all different skill levels at Prep School, and some non-surfers as well.  Just be prepared to man the video camera if you are sitting on the beach!

Q: What are the weather and waves like in the St. Augustine, FL in August?

A:  The air temperature is around 73°F at night and 88°F during the day—hot. The water temperature is normally in the low to mid 80’s—warm (bring surf trunks and a bucket of sunscreen). Average surf is in knee to chest high range and brings a lot of punch on the right tide.

Q: How will the Prep School leaders find me at the airport?

A: Special arrangements will be made for each student in order to ensure a prompt and safe pick-up at the airport. All leaders will be wearing “Christian Surfers” tee shirts, and be holding a sign with your name on it. When flying to Prep School, use Jacksonville International Airport (JAX), and book a flight that arrives between 9am-11am EST on Thursday, August 5th.

Q: Do I have to take a plane?

A: Taking a plane is not necessary. If you are close enough to come to Prep School by car then you will just need to c ome to the meeting site, Anastasia Baptist Church by 1PM on Thursday August 5th.

Q: What are the qualifications to be a chaperone?

A: All chaperones must pass a background check and currently be serving in a Christian Surfers chapter. A chaperone must also have a list of references that will be contacted and verified. If you would like to be a chaperone, click the registration link below to apply.

Q: Who will be leading the training?

A: The National Director of Christian Surfers United States will be leading the training at Prep School. Click this link to see Dean training during the 2009 National Conference.

Q: What do I need to bring?

A: You will need your Bible, surfboard, weather-appropriate clothes, tent, camping gear, sleeping bag & pillow, leash, wax, camera (optional), sunblock, towel(s), trunks, toiletries, etc.

Q: Will I need money?

A: All your food, drinks, and snacks will be provided, however, if you require extra snacks, etc., then you will want to bring some extra money.  Some people like to buy gifts for their parents or donors so you might want to bring some spending money for that as well. All of the essentials are provided so the amount of spending money that you will need is entirely up to you.

In addition to everything mentioned above in the FAQ section, we are going to go to Typhoon Lagoon as well.  This is a part of the registration fee, no additional money is needed.  If you've never surfed there before, it's a legit wave that is rideable 365 days a year.  So, we will get some fun waves, guaranteed.

We are stoked. We really can’t wait to meet you new ‘Prep Schoolers’ and see those from years past.
