Anywhere between 42nd St. and River Jetties.
Kevin Raymer started it about 12 years ago as a bible study and 3 years ago we became official. Jeff and Josh took over as co-directors in August 2008.
A lot of Volcom kids live and surf at 42nd, 43rd St. Bethany Hamilton surfs here a lot when she is in California.
Born at Hope Hospital, could literally see 56th St. out the window of the delivery room so my roots go pretty deep!
We have 2 surf days a month, the 1st Sat. of every month at Blackies in Newport and 4th Sat. of every month at north side River Jetties with the Huntington chapter. Set up the tent, hand out coffee, the chapter members get that surfing is for reaching people. The core Blackies guys started by checking us out, moving closer every Sat. until now they wait for us to be there. The best part is the chapter members know that surfing is for catching people, not catching waves!
Lots of testimonies of people getting saved on the sand, one lady in Sept. wanted a lesson so I loaned her a board and suit, right at the water’s edge she blurted out that he father always told her that God’s love is conditional, based on things you do, never unconditional. Her 8 yr. old son was there, I asked if he did something so horrible would she stop loving him? She said no and she got it for the first time that God loved her unconditionally! She accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior right there on the sand at the water’s edge!
I don’t like the word volunteer, I look at being in CS as a full time missions job. I work more hours at CS than I do at my regular job! The biggest motivator for me is seeing how God divinely moves through CS. Surfing is one of GodÕs creative ways to minister His love. Marrying my passion for surfing and my love of surfing has been one of the greatest blessings of my life.
Pesce and Interface boards, anything from a 5’11 to a 6’1 shortboard.

Sept.-Nov./Jan.
The moment I realized I had to really surrender my surfing to God, I dropped in on a kid that had been dropping in on everyone for 2 hours. He dropped in behind me and I cutback and he fell. When he yelled at me I realized he was deaf! He couldn’t hear people hooting him off the waves. I apologized and hugged him and sat down on the sand and really gave my surfing to God for Him to use.
Come help out at the US Open this year!
